Vinyl Records
For a journalism class at the University of Oregon, I was assigned to create a cohesive audio recording.
I took on the challenge of learning to cut and edit audio with no prior experience. My task was to condense 20 minutes of audio into exactly one minute and 30 seconds. My goal was to make the final piece flow seamlessly, as if no edits had been made.
I interviewed a close friend whose story I was eager to share. As you'll hear in the audio, he owns over 600 vinyl records, transforming his room into a personal record store. His deep love for vinyl is captivating, and experiencing his collection firsthand was nothing short of amazing.
I worked to make the audio recording engaging by highlighting the parts of his story that flow seamlessly and capture the listener's attention. I also incorporated music from his personal record collection in the background, adding a personal touch to the experience.
I really enjoyed collecting the audio for this assignment because I have such a passion for music and I’ve always loved vinyl records. There is something so unique and authentic about them and the sound they produce. Vinyl records feel more personal than downloaded music from a phone, computer, etc.
